Kia ora whānau

A friendly reminder that there is no school tomorrow as teachers engage in further professional development around the Mathematics Curriculum. We thank whānau for their support and understanding while the school is closed for this important learning opportunity.

Friday basketball is still going ahead so good luck to all our teams.

Monday is also a public holiday as we celebrate the King’s Birthday, so we hope everyone enjoys the long weekend and takes time to relax and recharge.

Reports and Individual Education Plans Update:

Teachers continue to work on writing School Reports and Individual Education Plans (I.E.P’s). We appreciate all whānau who have attended I.E.P Meetings over the first half of Term 2.

Whānau will notice the change in reports with the new Curriculum Descriptors. The aim is for all ākonga to make progress with their learning over their time at Stratford Primary School. An issue is that the New Curriculum expectations have risen, which will affect where ākonga are positioned. The other issue is that teachers are still trying to unpack the new expectations compared with the old Curriculum expectations. The Ministry of Education released a statement around this. See below. If whānau have any questions about their child’s report when they come home later in the term, please contact their classroom teacher.

What is happening next week:

  • Monday 1 June: No School – King’s Birthday.
  • Tuesday 2 June: Huranga Whānui – Year 7-8.
  • Wednesday 3 June: Huranga Whānui – Year 7-8.
  • Thursday 4 June: Kapa Haka.
  • Friday 5 June: Assembly at 9.15am (all whānau welcome); Taranaki Mohoao Fundraiser for the TET King’s Theatre – Dress up as your favourite character and/or actor, bring a gold coin donation.

Key Dates for Term 2

  • Friday 3 July: Last day of Term 2 at 2.35pm

Collecting your child for an appointment

Any student collected early from school for an appointment , or if they are sick MUST be signed out on the Vistab in the office.  I would like to remind whanau that this is not an option, whether you are running late, or have to be somewhere else.  Failure to do so could cause a waste of resources in an emergency situation.

Please drive slowly along Regan Street, during before and after school times

There is a 30km speed limit during school drop off times. Lately, a number of cars have been speeding during this time. Please can everyone drive slowly during these times to keep our tamariki safe. Whānau can you remind friends and family who also drive along Regan Street during these times.

Paper Road Access

The road between the Junior Block and the swimming pool is jointly owned by the school and the Stratford District Council. This road is reserved for council staff, school staff, and whānau who hold a valid car park pass.

The Principal issues passes to whānau who require assistance and/or have tamariki with complex needs. All other vehicles are not permitted to use or park on this road.
