Important Reminders:
20 years ago our children were safe in their bedrooms, now with the internet and a connection to the outside world they are not.
Internet safety begins at home and therefore digital citizenship needs to be a community effort.
The impact will be more powerful when ākonga have multiple trusted adults they can discuss issues with and when they are hearing the same message reinforced from both home and school. We strongly encourage all whanau to come along to the presentation by Rob Cope next Thursday 8 June, Stratford High School at 7.00pm. Rob is a great presenter with really valuable information on how to work alongside your children to help them navigate and stay safe online. We hope to see as many whanau there as possible.
Please see the recent article about Rob Cope in the Stratford Press and also posted on our Facebook page.
World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5 every year to encourage everyone to do their part to help protect the environment. This year the focus is on solutions to plastic pollution under the campaign #BEAT PLASTIC POLLUTION?
We will be celebrating this day on Friday 9 June due to Monday being a public holiday. This is a great reminder to think about what goes into our children’s lunch boxes each day and what positive changes can we make to help reduce the amount of plastic we use.
Here are some ideas:
- Use less of single-use packaged foods, these options are more expensive per weight, because of the extra packaging.
- Buy food in bulk and save. Put food into re-useable containers.
- Say goodbye to single use wrapping.
Use beeswax wraps that are reuseable and fully compostable.
As a Green-Gold Enviro School this is something small we can focus on each day to make a big difference to the ongoing efforts to reduce the use of plastic.
