Tēnā koutou katoa

It is great to be back at Stratford Primary School. I am looking forward to connecting with tamariki and whānau when school starts back on Monday 17 July. Remember, we are still in the Winter Term period, which means school will finish at 2.35pm for all of Term 3.

In New Plymouth from the 13 – 16 July there is the Winter Festival of Lights to coincide with the Matariki long weekend. Enjoy the celebrations, it will be a great opportunity to spend some quality time with whānau.

All the best to Stratford-Eltham Senior Rugby Team who will be competing in the premier rugby final. It is great to see the colts make the final as well. I encourage whānau to take their tamariki to the game as it will be an awesome community event.

Tamariki Wellbeing: How are tamariki being supported at home by whānau to have healthy routines? This includes sleep, limited time on devices, clear family rules around being safe online, healthy eating, lots of play and fun.

This term, teams will be using the ‘Our Kids Online’ teaching resources to explore being safe online. Teachers will pick and choose appropriate teaching content from the themes, which they think is relevant to their ākonga. Whānau are encouraged to get involved with the learning themes that their tamariki will be exploring over the term. Click here on the School Website to view the themes that different year groups will explore. Any questions/worries can be directed to the classroom teacher. This resource is also being used by other schools in the Central Taranaki Kahui Ako.

School culture focus areas: To start the term, tamariki will be working on…

– Getting back to class within two minutes of the bell going.

Keeping corridor areas clean and tidy at the start and end of the school day

Being responsible for returning sports gear to the bins (and not leaving clothing outside)

Whānau can support teachers by talking to their tamariki about why it is important to get to class on time? Why is it important to return sports gear and be responsible for their clothing? Why it is important to have a tidy learning environment that we are all proud of.

Important Reminders:

– Have you booked your Interview? In Week two, we will be holding Whānau Interviews. This is a great chance for whānau to support teachers and tamariki to discuss and plan their learning goals. If you have not booked, click this link to the school website or contact the School Office Team to make a time. Remember to arrive at interviews before the time and ensure you stick to the allocated time. Parents of Year 8 students who will be enrolling at Stratford High School will need to book with the High School, instructions are included in the link above. This will mean you will have two interviews on the night not one, both will be at Stratford Primary School. Tamariki need to attend the interview. If you have a worry make another time with the classroom teacher. School will finish at 1pm on Tuesday 25 and Thursday 27 July for Whānau Interviews. If you cannot collect your child at this time please contact your child’s classroom teacher. Tamariki will be supervised in the library until 2.35pm in the school library. The Late Bus will still run as per normal from the library.

Attendance Matters: All tamariki must be at school and in their classroom by 8.45am. This is an important time for them to settle into the day and connect with their classmates. The roll is then taken at 8.55am. Tamariki who arrive after this time will be recorded as being late to school.
