Kia Ora Whānau

Our Year 5-6 ākonga enjoyed their sports exchange with Bell Block School on Tuesday. Results were:

  • Rugby: Win 48 – 42
  • Soccer: Loss 5 – 1
  • Netball A: Win 19 – 4
  • Netball B: Win 17 – 3

Unfortunately, the weather postponed yesterday’s Year 5-6 Rippa Tournament and today’s exchange with Fitzroy School.

Paid Union Meeting: School finishes at 1pm on Wednesday (15 June):
We ask whānau to collect their tamariki at 1pm. Staff can supervise any tamariki who cannot be picked up at this time, as we will be open for instruction. This means a small number of staff will supervise tamariki. Please contact your child’s classroom teacher if you need your tamariki to be supervised. The Late Bus will continue as per normal.

Matariki Holiday: Friday 24 June
New Zealand will be celebrating Matariki in the form of a Public Holiday. Matariki marks the beginning of the Māori New Year. Matariki is a star cluster. When seen from Earth, the stars in a constellation appear to be close together in a pattern. There are about 500 stars in the Matariki cluster, but only six or seven are visible without a telescope. Note: In Taranaki, local Māori recognise Puanga.

Puanga is given prominence mainly because some iwi struggle to see Matariki clearly from their locality and therefore look to the next important star near Matariki. That star is Puanga. This is not a rejection of Matariki as many of these iwi will still refer to Matariki and the other names in the constellation in their tribal narratives – however, Puanga is given preference (Source: www.tepapa.govt.nz).

This offer is open to you, your staff, and wider Kura Whanau (including Parents, Students, and your community of friends & family). It gives them the opportunity to unlock amazing deals during the two-week period, starting on Monday June 20th and running through until Sunday 3rd July 2022. See the attached flyer.
