Week 3 (Toru Wiki), Term 2 2022: Next week’s message from Jason Elder
Friday 13 May 2022
It has been great seeing so many happy tamariki (Children) bouncing in through the school gate each morning. I have also been impressed with the morning routines of our ākonga (leaners) and their positive AIM High attitude around improving their writing and basic facts skills.
Teachers have used this week to connect with whānau (parents/caregivers). I encourage all whānau to keep connected to their tamariki’s learning in the classroom. Remember, whānau can make a time to catch up with teachers through the term. Whānau can also pop into classrooms after school. A positive home-school connection goes a long way towards supporting our ākonga to ‘be the best they can be’.
Next week is Anti-Bullying Week. Whānau can help by educating tamariki that bullying is a repeated/targeted behaviour that is harmful. Talking about the meaning of manaakitanga as an AIM High learner reinforces how we want to be as a community… caring for everyone. Anti-Bullying Week will culminate with a ‘Pink Shirt Day’ on Friday 20 May. Ākonga can bring a ‘Gold Coin’ donation, which will go towards a charity that will be decided by Senior Ākonga next week. Senior Ākonga have decided on Youthline, which is an organisation that supports 12-24 Year Olds in Aotearoa New Zealand who are struggling with mental health or other issues.
On Friday, we welcome Fitzroy School for the Year 5-6 Sports Exchange. It would be great to see lots of whānau support.
Current Covid-19 Numbers for Term 2:
Student cases= 27
Staff cases= 5
Whanau will continue to receive a text if there are any class based cases. Please keep tamariki home if they are unwell. We are having a big push on good hygiene practices as the flu season fast approaches.
